The Olympics

Heart:

The Olympics is the ultimate competition for amateur athletes. Olympians represent the best in their craft, and not just the best at injecting themselves with foreign substances (see: MLB, NFL, Tour de France). Some of the most incredible sports, coupled with some of the most hilarious (ice dancing, anyone?) make for great athletic entertainment every 2 years.

Hate:

The Olympics might be great to watch live, but only if you can get in to see it or live on the East Coast. If you have tens of thousands of dollars to burn, you can probably procure a few tickets. Then again, if you have that much money, you can just bribe a few officials so you can have the event in your own town.

The Olympics symbolize mankind joining together in what we do best: strive to be the best and make foreigners look bad. We unify in competition... its a paradox of peace through wanting to be better than everyone else. However, recently, its been all too proprietary, NBC can bite my ass.

The fact that it's in North America this year definitely draws appeal. Instead of watching events at 3 - 5 AM, it's possible to watch them in prime-time. Especially here on the east coast. I'll be following the Olympics like I do the x-games on a seasonal basis, which is constantly.
  • I'm with you, Adam. But what's ridiculous is that I'm on 3-hour delay. Literally, the Olympics are going on 60 minutes north of me. Yet I have to see it 3 hours later. I could drive up, watch the event live, drive back home and tell Sarah before NBC broadcasts it. Pretty aggravating.
