The open source fanatics at Google created the best, most relevant search, and are a household name. You don’t search (let alone, Bing) – you Google. It’s great watching the little guy win. And compared to Microsoft and Apple, they’re a much smaller company. Plus, what’s better than free? Gmail, Analytics, Adsense, Docs are great, and so are the open source projects in Chrome and Android. You’ve gotta love Google.
Small is a relevant concept. Google has over 20,000 employees. Plus, some say that the fact that their products are open source is a serious anti-trust issue. Though their prices are great for customers, it creates high barriers to entry and kills off competition. Their dominance of the search market is great but troubling, as they have way too much power should they choose to yield it. Google’s not the underdog many think it is.
